Originally celebrated as a religious holiday, St. Patrick’s Day is today a celebration of Irish culture.
Little is known about Patrick’s life. Anyway Patrick’s importance is due to the fact that he Christianised the Irish.
It is said that he used the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity: that’s why the shamrock and the colour green are today associated with St. Patrick and the Irish.
Held on 17th March, St.Patrick’s day is celebrated all over the world and, of course, widely celebrated in Italy too. Rome is probably the city with the widest range of events and celebrations for Saint Patrick’s Day: here you can choose among the big list of Irish pubs, enjoy good Irish music and drink your Guinness!
Parties and festivals are organized in many Italian cities. You can either look for the different local festivals or join a party in one of the several Irish pubs.
